Katherine at Home
When it comes to “home” my favorite theme song has always been “Any place I hang my hat…”
My many jobs (or more often, lack thereof) have always required me to relocate so often that, perpetually, my possessions were either in transit, following me to some remote locale, or left behind, lodged in a long-term storage facility. Therefore, when Karl Pribram and I were living in San Francisco and he became “emeritus” at Stanford University (that is, he was required to retire at age 70, and was expected to rest on his laurels) I remained undaunted. Retire? I said. What’s that?
First, we moved to Austria for Karl’s professorship at University of Vienna; then we returned to San Francisco long enough to launch my book, The Eight, while packing our 26,000 pounds of books. We shipped these to our new house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where Karl had been appointed Distinguished Professor. Then we instantly took off again to Bielefeld, Germany for a “Year of Mind and Brain” before Karl assumed his Virginia duties.
You get the picture.
Life just keeps on happening.
Along the way, I have collected houses that I have lived in and loved–and a few of which I actually bought! This section begins with the Tree House in Sausalito, California, where I wrote my first TWO books, namely: The Eight and A Calculated Risk. Thanks to my benevolent new landlords, circa 2008, I have rented the tree house (some 20 years after I left it behind) for a year-long celebration of the publication of the sequel to The Eight: The Fire!
More house photos arriving soon….
