Over the years I have been invited to write many essays for everything from in-flight magazines to Sufi conferences to storytelling festivals.

Some of these essays were nothing more than my own impromptu and spontaneous thoughts about places where I have done research over the years and things that I discovered there. Other essays have been designed to help my readers and fellow writers conduct further research on their own, into the topics or the historic figures that are of most interest to them: a map into the labyrinth.

As we unearth my old essays from my previous web sites or those of others–or as I am contracted to write new essays–or as readers and authors write me with questions–my essays and research information will all appear here.
